Jeep alternators come in many shapes and sizes. Alternators have been through a natural progression and have grown as the modern Jeep's thirst for electricity has grown. You can now buy alternators with many different output amp ratings to suite any need. You can also mount 2 alternators in some cases and setups. A second alternator setup in a Jeep can be converted to an on-board welder as well for trail fixes. In all cases the health of your alternator is of utmost importance. Keep it out of mud and in worse cases bring a spare along. Refurbished alternators are not expensive and good insurance to have a spare.

Jeep starters and automotive starters in general have not changed much. Although you can now purchase high torque starters you can use for severe offroading that will allow clutch free starting on steep inclines, are water proof sealed and are smaller in size. If you take your Jeep offroading often, especially in the mud, you will go through a starter a season. This is because the stock starter is not built to keep out mud, silt and water which ends up clogging and disabling the starter. If you are so inclined, starters are easy to rebuild.
